Koehler BrightStar Freakin’ Beacon — Operating & Battery Safety Guide

Koehler BrightStar Freakin’ Beacon — Blue | Operating & Battery Safety Guide

Model: 10K-2212B   UPC: 016731221218   Purpose: Personal visibility and personnel identification light.

The Freakin’ Beacon is intended to make the wearer more visible to nearby workers and equipment operators in suitable low-light work environments. It does not replace approved high-visibility clothing, hard-hat requirements, vehicle exclusion zones, or site safety procedures.

Power and approved batteries

Use two AAA alkaline batteries. The specified battery models for the applicable intrinsic-safety approval are:

  • Duracell MN2400
  • Energizer E92
  • Procell PC2400

Important: A battery that fits is not necessarily an approved battery. When intrinsic-safety approval is required, use only the exact manufacturer-specified battery models. Replace both batteries together. Do not mix new and used batteries or different manufacturers/types.

Operating modes

  • Steady: Continuous personal visibility light.
  • Flash: Attention-getting flashing light.
  • Auxiliary strobe: Additional flashing function; consult the original manufacturer manual for activation details.

Hazardous-location and battery-change warnings

  • Never open the battery compartment or replace batteries in a hazardous atmosphere. Perform battery changes only in fresh air outside hazardous areas.
  • Do not substitute unlisted battery models when relying on an intrinsic-safety approval.
  • The unit is labelled with MSHA Approval No. 18-A200001-0; follow the limitations printed on the equipment and original instructions.
  • Inspect the housing and seals before use. Stop using a damaged unit and consult the manufacturer.
  • Follow the site’s requirements for helmet attachments and permissible flashing-light colours. Blue flashing beacons are not automatically approved for airport, railway, military, road or emergency-service applications.

Before using on a jobsite

  1. Confirm your workplace allows this model and blue light.
  2. Verify the exact approved batteries and replace only in a safe location.
  3. Fit securely to the manufacturer-approved attachment point.
  4. Test the selected light mode and check the mounting before work begins.
  5. Follow the original manufacturer manual and your employer’s site rules.
